What qualifications do I need to become a registered nurse in Brisbane?

There are many different pathways to becoming a registered nurse in Brisbane.

One of the most common routes is to complete a 3-year undergraduate nursing degree and achieve a Bachelor of Nursing. Alternatively, you can complete a Diploma of Nursing which may allow you to progress to the second year of the undergraduate degree. Throughout your degree, you will gain valuable experience across both clinical and community settings.

It is important to note, this course must be approved by the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA). After graduation, you will need to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) and renew your registration annually to ensure you are able to practice in Australia.

After qualifying as a registered nurse, you can specialise further by undertaking a postgraduate degree or relevant specialist training programmes offered by hospitals. This will allow you to work across a series of specialist areas such as midwifery or community nursing.
