What qualifications do I need to become a midwife in Tasmania?

There are a few ways in which you can qualify to become a midwife. These include: 

  • Obtaining a Bachelor of Midwifery. This is a three-year course where you graduate as a midwife upon completion. 
  • Upskilling after you qualify as a registered nurse: If you have a Bachelor of Nursing degree, you can undertake a 12-month postgraduate program. This will allow you to hold both a registered nurse and midwife AHPRA registration. 
  • Dual degree: If you want to be skilled in both areas, a four-year dual degree means you will have both qualifications upon course completion.
